Gridlock

a wheel in the sand

I just reached the conclusion that I have so many things to do, and so many things to try that I am entering a gridlock.

Monday becomes Friday

60klms bike riding on Monday cleaned out the detritus from the weekend and rendered me incapable of doing anything much if it involved the use of my legs. There is a lot to be said for the fatigue that sets in early in the evening when you've showered, powdered, and relaxed. A lot like a runner's high - feeling very laid back. My version: lying in front of the TV, gathering the news.

50 rounds of 9mm on Wednesday. Ipswich Indoor Range. Good to feel a Glock in the hand again. Wearing wrong glasses means I have to tilt my head back at an insane angle to get the front sight in focus.

Not a good situation.

Scoring 85/100, not a good result; excuses include wrong glasses, amount of time since last shoot, different weapon, and, the best, no one told me we were scoring.

28 days is the amount of time I have to make up my mind about Mudbox, a recent Autodesk acquisition; a brother to 3ds Max perhaps? Looks good, feels good. More of a sculpting tool. Would perform wonderfully with a Wacom tablet if anyone feels the need to buy me one.

Reandron shot Thursday. Done. Sore arse. Hopefully worth it. Doctor swears it makes a difference to my attitude and things. I never remember to keep track. She was also good enough to cure the raging hayfever that I seem to be stuck with this week. Nothing like red, weepy eyes and a runny nose to keep people at bay.

40klms bike riding to finish off the week. It has been a good looking Friday - sunshine even, and some decent buggy wind. Too late, the decision was made to bike rather than risk rain over at the buggy park. We don't do disappointments very well at all.

Biking it was. 40 kilometres and I'm home, looking up the internet for fresh bike tyres. Mine are getting badly cut with such a soft compound - time to look at the Kevlar option I feel.

Thus the week was completed. Weekend=work, two days to come up with insane plans. Two days alone with my own mind. Not an ideal situation.

time for the JoJo

Being that I have a 6m JoJo RM sitting in a bag right behind me this video managed to grab my attention.

Now, if we could just get to the bit where I get something less than a gale to fly in...

resolutions

a week of rain

Resolution, New Year 2008, continue biking until every ounce of superfluous body fat has fallen away, leaving a sleek, fit, desperate man.

It's been raining ever since. Rain, as you have been told, is good for places suffering a drought. Brisbane is / was such a place. So much so the government decided, only ten years too late, to begin a pipeline from the city to the main dam, which would have the dubious distinction of allowing us to re-consume our sewerage. Yummy.

The pipeline has been progressing well, although there are many hold ups due to rain. No matter what, the pipeline still needs to be built. For the next drought. And the one after that.

Each night on the television weather there is a run down on who got rain and where. Except for the dam. The dam never manages to get any water. They tell us this every night least we relax and leave a tap on somewhere, or defy the watering ban and live dangerously by setting up a sprinkler in the middle of the lawn. The water police will find you if you lapse. The water police are everywhere. Looking. Waiting.

Rain. The vanguard of any conversation. 'This weather is a bit dry eh?' (In Australia you are able to ask a question while making a statement.) 'How's your lawn?', 'Dry enough for you?', and on it goes.

Now, after some rain, the place is looking beautiful again. Lush. Tropical. With frequent showers.

Biking—the resolution maintains that I am keen enough to go out even in periods of uncertainty in the weather; this time last year I wouldn't go out if there was a hint of wind, reasoning I didn't need the extra stress of a headwind. The resolution changes all that. No excuse for non compliance.

Twice this year I have been out. Wednesday, in amongst rain squalls. Dry one side of the circuit, wet on the other. Thursday, after consulting the rain radar, calculations carefully made, full preparation, and out we go. Calculations show with the rain front heading in at a constant speed I will have one hour to get some pedaling done. Good call. One hour and six minutes in the rain arrives and by the time I get home (not factored into the plan) I am decidedly wet. Resolution intact in most ways.

I still think there must be some of this ending up in the dam.
