Christchurch is largely destroyed now. This is an example of the damage. Rather crudely photographed I'm afraid, as the half car demonstrates.
The containers are holding up bales of hay and straw which help absorb the aftershocks. Shipping containers line the streets to stop debris rolling onto the road.

The Anglican Cathedral which is in the center of the city was unable to be viewed as the city center is still locked down awaiting demolition.

A seriously long time ago my family seemed to form up right about here. This is a the beginning of the Lewis Pass, heading to the West Coast. They lived right on the river and tossed in a few pine trees which survived the trauma of many floods. This is the very approximate area. Hope River Kind of explains why all the females have Hope in their name.
